2018 is about to come and we are all excited about it. Why not to come and celebrate it with us here in Iceland?
Iceland is one of the coolest destinations to welcome New Year. Especially in Reykjavík city.
It only inhabits 200,000 people, but Icelandic people know how to party and celebrate it.
Firework show in Reykjavik
Between 27th of December to 6th January, people are allowed to purchase fireworks and fire them whenever we like!
Icelanders get overexcited and start setting off the fireworks much earlier. They do it from the moment the firework shops are open. An interesting fact is that the firework sale in Iceland is not just for the sake of few seconds fun. By purchasing them you support associations or non profit organizations. One of them to mention is Landsbjörg Rescue Association that work with prevention and rescue missions all around the country.
It’s estimated that Icelanders have about 500,000 tons of fireworks to use this year. With that amount, we believe that it will lit up the whole city on New Year’s Eve night.
Gathering at bonfire locations
On New Year’s Eve at 20 o’clock we also light up bonfires all around Reykjavik, where people come to enjoy last hours before New Year come to town. Check our Bonfire Reykjavik tour for more information. If you’re looking for a place to dine on New Year’s Eve, check our restaurant recommendations.
