There is no doubt that Iceland has got more popular in recent years. Probably, one of your friends has even been there already! Now it is time for your visit. Right?
In this article, we will provide all possible options to reach to go travel from Keflavik Int. Airport to Reykjavik and via versus.
Cons and pros will be shared as well, so you could have a better idea of what option fits best to your personal needs.
But before we dig into the list, let’s take a look at general information about transfer services.
Airport transfer services in Iceland
After landing at Keflavik international airport, it normally will take you approx. 55min. until you reach the arrival hall. Now considering the Covid test, it might take up to an hour or longer.
At the arrival hall you will see:
- A big sign that shows you the way to the taxi stand (outdoor)
- Bus ticket kiosks, where you can buy tickets (at the arrival hall)
- Drivers standing with clients names (for those that pre-booked their transfer)
During the rush hours like early in the morning and late in the afternoon, there are always taxis waiting outside the arrival hall and buses leaving every 45-60min.
Peak times
There are two times a day when the airport gets a bit hectic.
Early in the morning when all the flights come from the United States, between 6 am to 7:30 a,, and again in the afternoon between 3 pm – 5 pm when most of the flights from Europe arrive.
If you happen to arrive in Iceland at one of the time frames, it is best to pre-book a private car to avoid waiting additional time at the airport.
Bus transfers
The ride itself is approx. 45 minutes from the airport to their main bus terminal in Reykjavík. As the city bans big buses traveling to downtown area, you will need to change to a smaller bus and get transferred to the designated bus stop (see map below).
Depending on the drop-off list, it might take up to 30 minutes to get dropped off. If you are lucky, you don’t need to walk very far from the bus stop to your hotel.
Please note that currently Reykjavik’s downtown area there are many construction sites, which means that some of of the stop might be dysfunctional. So you might be required to walk longer distance to reach your accommodation.
Bus transfer pick-up and drop-off locations can be found on this map here:
PROS: It is cost-effective, the price range is approx. 30$-40$ per one way ride and 45$-56$ for a return trip.
CONS: Requires to change the bus, long travel time.
Taxi service
As it was mentioned above, they are usually standing at airport arrival hall’s parking lot. The only way to book them on the spot is to go out to the parking lot and talk to the driver.
PROS: Only 45min. ride
CONS: Price might vary depending on the time of day and on weekends. During the busy hours, there are literally no taxis at the airport. Which could lead you to additional 30-45min. wait.
Pre-booked car service
If you pre-book a car, your driver will not only wait for you at the arrival hall with your name written on a sign, but will also make sure that you get picked up no matter if your flight arrives early or gets delayed. If you are interested to book one of those, check our private airport transfer service.
PROS: Fixed price, driver monitor’s your arrival, luxury class cars.
CONS: Might be slightly more expensive.
Conclusion
Each options has cons and pros. For example taking a bus would be a cheapest option if you travel alone. But as soon as your group is three or more people, you would be almost the per person by catching a taxi or hiring a pre-booked airport transfer.
