Tour Itinerary
Getting ready
Meeting at the Borea base at Mávagarður C (grey building) close to the Eastern Harbour to prepare kayaking gear. A short walk down to the shore behind the old houses in Nedstikaupstadur, where a short safety briefing gets delivered and a simple paddling lesson.
Tour Starts
The 2-hour tour starts on the kayaks. The guides will provide care and clear instructions for a safe experience while sharing folklore stories. Expect to see many sea birds and perhaps a colony of seals that call Ísafjörður home.
Return to the Town
The kayaking gear is returned and you are free to continue exploring the town on foot.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring a camera/phone with me?
You can bring cameras and phones to capture those great moments. However, as we all know, water and electronics don’t mix very well. We hold no responsibility for your personal electronics. That being said, we have very few accidents and you’re unlikely to drop or damage your items if you’re careful. We recommend using a waterproof case.
Will I get wet?
Our kayaks are very stable and capsize are rare, therefore, you’re unlikely to get soaked. But it’s important to remember that we are kayaking and it’s normal to get caught by a few splashes. Our kayak gear will keep you somewhat protected but getting a little damp is normal.
What kind of kayaks do you use?
We use plastic sea kayaks. We have both single and tandem kayaks available. We highly recommend using tandem kayaks for our trips as they are faster, more stable, and a lot more social than singles! Tandem kayaks are not only for beginners, in fact, but experienced kayakers will also know the benefits of tandem kayaks. However, if you are an experienced paddler, then of course the single kayaks are available.
I have never kayaked before or have limited experience; can I still join the tour?
Definitely! Our kayaks are very stable and easy to use. We will give you very easy and clear guidance and make you feel very comfortable. If you have any worries, then please feel free to discuss this with your guide beforehand.
Will I see seals?
There is a colony of seals that live in the fjord and they are often seen sunbathing on the rocks or swimming around the kayaks, they are very curious. However, we don’t guarantee that we’ll see them as they’re sometimes out hunting fish.
Is this tour accessible for people with mobility difficulties?
Unfortunately, this tour is not suitable for the physically disabled nor for people using wheelchairs as the tour includes a walk on uneven paths.
How will I find the guide at the port?

What if my cruise can’t dock?
You will receive 96,5% refund if your cruise cannot dock.
Why is the tour price different today from the last time I checked?
Kindly note that prices in all currencies, except ISK, may change due to currency exchange rates.
What happens with my booking if you cancel the tour?
If we cancel the tour due to bad weather, you will receive an email and an offer to reschedule. If rescheduling does not work, we will refund the full refund.
What is the cancellation policy for this service?
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if the booking is canceled 2 days or less before the event.
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 53.5% if the booking is canceled 7 days or less before the event.
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 13.5% if the booking is canceled 500 days or less before the event.
- 3.5% is a Merchant Fee.
