Experience the captivating beauty of West Iceland, only an hour away from Reykjavik, on our Private Esja Mountain, Hvalfjordur & Hvammsvik Tour. We start at Mount Esja, Reykjavik’s watchtower, and take in the scenery before moving on to Þórufoss Waterfall, which is used as a filming location for Game of Thrones. We then enter Whalefjord, also known as Hvalfjordur. We finally arrive at Hvammsvik Geothermal Baths, where you can enjoy eight naturally occurring hot springs that are close to the sea.
Your expert local guide in Reykjavik will pick you up directly from your downtown Reykjavik hotel. After a brief 25-minute drive beyond the city, we’ll greet Mount Esja, the guardian of Reykjavik, and embark on a 2-hour trek up and down this stunning peak, immersing ourselves in breathtaking vistas. Our journey continues to the famous Þórufoss waterfall, renowned for its appearance in the Game of Thrones series.
Following this, we’ll venture into the enchanting Hvalfjordur, or Whale Fjord, which offers awe-inspiring scenery. Throughout the trip, you’ll receive in-depth insights into the region’s rich history and captivating folklore.
Our next stop is Steji, an elfstone or residence, believed to be inhabited by an elf named Staupasteinn. Delve into enchanting elf tales before we head to the remarkable Hvammsvik Geothermal Baths, a unique experience boasting eight naturally occurring hot springs nestled by the ocean. The springs range from ocean temperatures (around ten °C) to a toasty 42°C in the original hot spring.
For those feeling adventurous, take a refreshing dip in the ocean or relax in steam rooms and hot outdoor showers.
