Embark on an Enchanting Journey through Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Today, our expedition unveils the captivating beauty of Iceland’s Snaefellsnes Peninsula, an elongated wonder stretching from the western shores. This rugged landscape is graced by a majestic mountain range crowned by the enigmatic Snaefellsjökull glacier, a cone-shaped stratovolcano soaring 1,446 meters into the sky. Our voyage around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula leads us through dramatic lava fields and along picturesque coastlines, offering a plethora of opportunities for capturing the essence of Iceland through your lens.
As we enter Snaefellsnes National Park, prepare to be awestruck by the park’s diverse attractions. Here, volcanic craters, meandering lava flows, a pristine ice cap, towering glaciated peaks, serene fjords, golden sandy beaches, and sheer cliffs weave a tapestry of remarkable landscapes. It’s a place where nature’s artistry knows no bounds, and it’s no wonder that Jules Verne found inspiration for his famous science-fiction novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” amidst this enchanting backdrop.

In the late afternoon, we embark on the ferry Baldur for a scenic journey from Stykkishólmur to Brjánslaekur in the West Fjords. This 2.5-hour voyage across Breiafjörur Bay includes the passage by Flatey Island, a summer sanctuary for its few inhabitants. As we trace the rugged shoreline, our journey takes a pause at the Hnjótur Folk and Transport Museum, a window into Iceland’s rich cultural heritage. Venturing further, we venture into an isolated and sparsely populated realm that unveils the Látrabjarg bird cliffs, a true marvel of nature and the westernmost point of both Iceland and Europe.
From mid-May to mid-August, these cliffs become a bustling avian metropolis, especially famous for its puffin population. Hiking through the pristine Icelandic wilderness, we ascend to the pinnacle of Iceland’s tallest bird cliff. Here, you’ll bear witness to one of the world’s most impressive gatherings of Nordic birds.
