Description

On November 21, 1973, a US Navy aircraft on a routine flight from Höfn to Stokksnes encountered severe icing, forcing it to land on an ice-covered river on Sólheimasandur. The plane was abandoned by the US Navy after the crew was safely rescued, and it has since become one of Iceland’s most photographed sites.

Traditionally, visiting the plane wreck required over an hour of hiking. The Plane Wreck Shuttle now offers a convenient 15-minute drive directly to the wreck, giving you ample time to explore and photograph the site before returning to the parking lot.
