Private River Floating over Bubbling Sands from Akureyri

“Little River”, or Litlaá, is situated south of the Arctic Circle close to Iceland’s northern coast. Although warm water in this location is uncommon, we may snorkel in approximately 20° Celcius water and explore its many sections in a relaxing manner because of a nearby geothermal active area.

The tour is conducted in a lagoon known as Brunnar, which translates to “Wells.” The lagoon receives its freshwater from wells on its bottom and hot water from a neighboring geothermal area. The floor of the lake is covered in fascinating dancing sand that resembles material from another planet. While some behave like underwater beaches, others like underwater explosions. These stunning patterns known as “Bubbling Sands” are created by the cold water spurting up from the bottom and are something you have to experience for yourself.

We also find fields of weird green algae, plants, variegated sediments, and an endless amount of snails due to the warm water temperature.

We discover innumerable sticklebacks swimming in big groups in the shallow rocky section near the lagoon’s margins. The magnificent brown trout is occasionally sighted by snorkelers and consumes sticklebacks.

We will take a quick river float before the tour comes to a conclusion. The water from Skjálftavatn lake mixes with the Litlaá river a little below our point of departure. A well-liked fishing location including large brown trout, sea trout, Arctic char, and occasionally Arctic salmon occurs where the two rivers converge.

Tour Timeline:

• (If you have arranged for a private trip that includes pick-up, you will initially meet your driver at the designated site.)
• Meeting the DIVE.IS guide upon arrival to the Litlaá River.
• Equipping and briefing with your guide (about one hour)
• After putting on your whole outfit, you proceed to the entrance platform.
• 30 to 45 minutes submerged in water.
• Walk back to the meeting place after leaving the river.
• Remove the equipment and warm up with some hot chocolate and cookies.
• You will now have opportunity to speak with your guide, ask any questions, and look at the photos that were taken during the tour.
• (If you are driving on the Diamond Circle route, you may continue and finish visiting the rest of the sightseeing locations)
• Your driver will drop you off at your location if you have scheduled a tour that includes pick-up.
