On this private Secret Lagoon tour, we take you to the most “hidden” pool in Iceland!
Secret Lagoon or Gamla Laugin (e. Old Pool) as it is better known for Icelandic people is a natural hot springs pool located in the small village called Fludir. This pool dates back to 1891 and was publicly used until 1947. When modern swimming pools started to emerge, this pool got forgotten. It stayed abandoned for a half-century until the current owner in 2005 decided to put it back to life.
The interesting part about this pool is that it is located next to several active geysers which you can explore while bathing.
Water temperature in the swimming pool is 38-40 °C / 100-104 °F – all year round.
The Secret Lagoon is also one of the few surviving man-made pools that are still in old-school shape. You would feel like going 100 years back in time!
This tour is good as an alternative for Blue Lagoon which is usually fully booked or very crowded.
Tour Overview
It takes 1.5 hours to reach Secret Lagoon from Reykjavik. You will have 2 hours to enjoy the lagoon on your own.
There are proper changing rooms with lockers and showers. Admission tickets and towels are included in the price.
Swimming suits are available for rent at the location. Also, there is a small coffee house where you can purchase some snacks and drinks.
