Experience the best of Iceland’s stunning south coast on our Private South Coast Tour with a Glacier Hike at Solheimajökull Glacier. This tour is a must-do activity, offering breathtaking landscapes, magnificent waterfalls, and the exhilarating adventure of hiking on an ancient glacier. Join us for an unforgettable journey through some of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders.
Our adventure begins with a visit to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall. As we approach Route 1, you’ll see the waterfall from a distance, but the real magic happens up close. Seljalandsfoss cascades from a height of 60 meters (190 ft) off the side of the Eyfjallajokull volcano. This is the same volcano that erupted in 2010, making headlines worldwide. Be sure to ask your guide about this fascinating event. Just a short walk away is the hidden gem of Gljufrabui waterfall. Many visitors miss this beautiful spot, but we’ll make sure you don’t.
Next, we’ll head to the majestic Skogafoss waterfall. This south-facing waterfall is known for its frequent rainbows, created by the spray from its 60-meter (190 ft) drop. It’s one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, and for a good reason. If the weather is favorable, you can climb the stairs to the top for a stunning view.
The highlight of our tour is the glacier hike on Sólheimajökull glacier. This glacier is an outlet of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which sits atop the Katla volcano. The activity is approximately 2.5 hours long and is guided by a specialized glacier expert. You’ll be provided with all the necessary safety equipment for this unforgettable experience. Walking on a glacier that is thousands of years old is truly awe-inspiring.
After the glacier hike, we will visit the world-famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Here, you can marvel at the beautifully shaped basalt columns, the powerful Atlantic waves, and the dramatic sea stacks of Reynisdrangar. You’ll also get a view of the stone sea arches of Dyrholaey from a distance. Please follow our guide’s instructions on the beach and stay away from the dangerous waves.
Return to Reykjavik After our beach visit, you can sit back and relax as we drive back to Reykjavik, reflecting on the incredible sights and experiences of the day.
Our first stop will be at Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. You’ll recognize it from afar, but the real beauty is up close. You can even walk behind the waterfall for a unique perspective. Just a few minutes away is Gljufrabui, a hidden waterfall nestled within a canyon, offering a serene and less crowded experience.
We then move on to Skogafoss, where you’ll be greeted by the thunderous roar of the water. This waterfall is famous for its rainbows, which often appear on sunny days. You can walk right up to the base of the waterfall or take the stairs to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The adventure continues with a glacier hike on Solheimajokull. This experience is not to be missed. Our expert guides will equip you with all necessary gear and lead you safely onto the glacier. You’ll explore crevasses, ridges, and ice formations, gaining a deeper understanding of the glacier’s dynamics and history.
Our final stop is the spectacular Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Known for its striking basalt columns and powerful waves, this beach is a photographer’s paradise. The dramatic sea stacks of Reynisdrangar add to the otherworldly atmosphere. Be sure to heed the safety advice of your guide, as the waves here can be unpredictable and dangerous.
After a day of adventure and awe-inspiring sights, we’ll return to Reykjavik. You’ll have plenty of time to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences.
