Adventure to Litla-Hrút eruption site in Reykjanes Peninsula
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Iceland’s most recent volcanic eruption and immerse yourself in the fascinating geological wonders of this evolving lava field. This once-in-a-lifetime experience offers a rare opportunity to witness nature’s power firsthand.
The Litla-Hrút eruption promises breathtaking views and an in-depth look at the unique volcanic landscape of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Our adventure begins with a convenient pick-up in Reykjavik at Bus Stop 8 (Hallgrimskirkja). As we drive towards the eruption site, you’ll traverse ancient lava fields that tell the story of Iceland’s dramatic creation.
Your guided hike starts with an introduction to the volcanic history of the area, including the early signs leading to this latest eruption. Along the way, we’ll explore the formation of new land and discover how the lava’s composition shapes the terrain. At the crater viewpoint, take in stunning panoramas of the active lava field and surrounding landscapes.
On the return drive to Reykjavik, you’ll pass by geothermal hot springs, serene lakes, and majestic mountains that showcase the beauty of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Led by a professional geologist or volcanologist, you’ll gain expert insight into the eruption’s processes and the incredible forces shaping Iceland’s landscape. Please note, as volcanic activity is unpredictable, we cannot guarantee views of glowing lava.
