Silfra Fissure is one of the places in Iceland where you can observe the progressive separation of the tectonic plates underwater. The North American and Eurasian Tectonic Plates, that separate the earth, meet exactly where Iceland is located.
The water at this enchanted place is considered one of the cleanest in the world, with a visibility of more than 100 meters. This extraordinarily pure water comes from the Langjökull glacier’s melted ice.
Come along on a journey to Silfra snorkeling tour, the only location on Earth where you may go snorkeling in space between two tectonic plates.
During this excursion, you will be swimming between two tectonic plates. Your tour guide will give you all the GoPro photos right after the activity.
The Silfra Fissure is located 50 minutes from Reykjavik, in the Thingvellir National Park.
We will pick you up from your designated bus stop and take you directly to Silfra. You’ll get to see some of Iceland’s breathtaking scenery along the way.
It’s important to provide your snorkeling guide with a completed medical form once we arrive at the destination. (it is extremely important to read the medical form before booking the tour). Your guide will then provide you with all the gear, including a dry suit to keep you warm, swimming fins, and other snorkeling necessities.
Your guide will teach you how to snorkel as soon as you are warm and prepared, as well as other important details.
All of your clothing and other belongings can be left in our Tröll bags, which are always kept in a secure location. You’ll next walk in your dry suit towards Silfra. It takes only a few minutes to Silfra.
After that, simply dive into the glistening sea to take in one of the world’s most stunning places!
Before the excursion, please make sure to sign this Snorkeling Medical Statement. – click here.
This tour is available all year!
The tour departs every 8:00 AM.
Snorkeling in Silfra will take 3 hours. We next stop for lunch in Geysir. The total duration of the tour is 6 hours.
Dry suits will keep you warm. It might get a little bit colder during winter time after you get out of the water. The air temperature in winter is usually colder than the water.
Glacier water is filtered via underground lava on its journey to Silfra after melting glacier ice. We can eventually explore the fascinating, mystical life between the tectonic plates because the pores from the lava clean the water in the end.
