The Golden Circle is the name given to a route comprising three main attractions; Thingvellir National Park, an area of historical, cultural, and geological importance to the hearts of all Icelanders; Gullfoss waterfall, a majestic and powerful waterfall powered by a glacial river; and Geysir Geothermal Area, where you can witness the frequent and awe-inspiring eruptions of geothermal steam and water.
The Secret Lagoon – A Geothermal Oasis, Iceland’s enduring romance with outdoor bathing is a well-kept secret, offering respite from the country’s often chilly and demanding climate. Among the numerous places where you can luxuriate in the soothing embrace of geothermal waters, the Secret Lagoon stands as a beloved gem. Nestled in the picturesque village of Flúðir, this natural geothermal pool has earned the nickname “Gamla Laugin,” which translates to “the old one,” affectionately used by the locals. What sets this destination apart is not just its modern charm but also its intriguing history, dating back to the late 19th century. The Secret Lagoon is not just another geothermal pool; it’s a living testament to Iceland’s rich heritage and the enduring allure of its warm, mineral-rich waters. This hidden oasis invites you to step back in time while immersing yourself in its inviting embrace. While visiting this remarkable site along the Golden Circle route, you’ll have the opportunity to explore more than just the present. The pool’s unique blend of history and natural wonder makes it an essential stop on your Icelandic adventure.
