Þingvellir National Park

Your first destination on the tour is Þingvellir National Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness the magnificence of Thingvellir Lake, the second largest in Iceland, and stroll along the rift between the North American and Euro-Asian tectonic plates. This site is renowned for being the birthplace of Althing, the world’s first parliament, established in 930 AD, and the source of the park’s name “Þingvellir” meaning “Fields of the Parliament.” If time permits, your guide will take you to the breathtaking Öxarárfoss Waterfall, which flows into the rift and blends with Thingvellir Lake.

Haukdalur/ Geysir Geothermal Area

The next stop is the Haukdalur/ Geysir geothermal area, one of the most geologically active regions in Iceland. Here, you’ll find the most active geyser in Iceland, Strokkur, which erupts every 5 to 10 minutes and sends a jet of hot water soaring up to 20 to 30 meters (65 to 98 feet) into the air. In addition to Strokkur, the area is also home to Little Geysir, nicknamed “the small one,” which resembles a boiling cauldron, as well as about 20 other inactive geysers that could erupt at any moment. But be careful not to get too close, as the water temperature reaches a scalding 100°C (212°F).

Gullfoss Waterfall

Last but not least, we head to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, Iceland’s second-largest waterfall. It’s just a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the waterfall’s viewpoint. During the summer months, for those who enjoy hiking, we can escort you to the side of the waterfall, where you’ll have the chance to experience the thundering vibration and the refreshing mist from the cascading water.
