Come and join us on the South Coast Tour with Glacier Hike in Iceland. This tour and activity that you can’t miss out on your checklist while in Iceland. The south coast is known for its beautiful coastal plain, along the south coast, you will have a chance to see stunningly beautiful waterfalls. The highlight of this tour is the glacier hike activity, it’s about two hours, and you will have the opportunity to walk on ice and feel the thousand years old glaciers.
Our first stop of the tour will be at the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, you’ll be able to see it from afar off the distance as we approach Route 1. As we are getting closer, you’ll be able to experience it right up close as it crashes off the side of Eyfjallajokull volcano from a height of 60 meters. Remember to ask your guide all about the famous eruption here back in 2010, which made Iceland famous all around the world. Not far from the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, there is another beautiful but hidden waterfall called Gljufrabui, which most visitors miss, don’t worry, we will show you this beautiful gem. As we move on to our next stop, you’ll have an even better view of Eyjafjallajokull and you’ll also get to visit Irafoss, another magical waterfall that other visitors don’t get to see.
Our next stop is the Skogafoss fall, which is one of the most iconic waterfalls in the world, and even featured in “Game of Thrones”. Due to its south-facing position, it is often covered in beautiful rainbows as the 60-meter cascade of water produces a lot of sprays. This location is one of the most popular visited sights in Iceland. You can also climb up the stairs to the top to enjoy the view of this waterfall as well.
Now we will reach our highlights of the tour, the glacier hike on Sólheimajökull glacier. Iceland is well-known for its glaciers. Did you know that glaciers cover about 10% of the total area of Iceland? on this tour, you will also take part in a glacier hike (approx. 1.5 hours long), with a guide and all the necessary safety equipment provided. A glacier hike, as its name suggests, is a professionally performed activity on which careful glacial routes are selected and thereafter hiked by a small group of people led by a certified guide.
After the glacier hike, it is now time to visit the world-famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, where beautifully-shaped basalt columns hug the cliffs, volcanic sands are pounded by powerful Atlantic waves, and the starkly shaped sea stacks of the Reynisdrangar towers. The stone sea arches of Dyrholaey can also be seen in from the distance. Please listen to our guide instructions when you are on the beach, don’t get too close to the waves, it’s very dangerous.
After this stop, now you can sit back and enjoy the ride back to the city.
