A memorable and enjoyable sea excursion is whale watching with Iceland Highlights from Dalvik, which is near Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. We take great pride in our impressive sighting success and five-star rating on TripAdvisor!
Whale viewing occurs in the stunning Eyjafjordur, nestled within the towering Tröllaskagi mountains, not far from the Arctic Circle. Come along for a fun-filled, thrilling marine trip with us.
One thing you should definitely do is go whale watching!
The enormous humpback whale is a very common sight in Dalvík. We also frequently see white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, little harbor porpoises, and occasionally the magnificent blue, fin, or killer whales. In total, 98% of our whale watching trips have resulted in sightings of whales or dolphins! In the extremely odd event that we are unable to spot any whales, you will have the option to retake the excursion.
The longest and liveliest whales are humpbacks, which range in length from 13 to 17 meters. They don’t seem to mind being seen and are not at all bashful. Humpbacks frequently enjoy displaying themselves and putting on a show. They come close to the boat, roll over, jump out of the water, and make surface splashes and slaps with their flukes and fins. When diving, the giant humpback whales constantly lift their flukes out of the water. On our whale watching cruise, there’s a good chance you’ll spot at least one humpback whale.
A bit smaller than humpback whales are minke whales. They are renowned for being inquisitive as well. Occasionally, they swim up to the boats, dive beneath them, and then raise their heads over the water. Spy-hopping is the term for this conduct, and no one is really sure why people engage in it.
Among the cetaceans, the harbor porpoise is one of the smallest. Even though they are extremely shy, our whale watching trips frequently get glimpses of them.
Toothed whales are another common name for white-beaked dolphins. Compared to harbor porpoises, they are friendlier and more lively. They frequently arrive in bigger groups and exhibit a great deal of curiosity about us.
