For those arriving early in the morning in Iceland, there are several activities available to make the most of your waiting time before your hotel check-in. Among the options, the Blue Lagoon Spa, Perlan Museum, Viðey Island, local swimming pools, the Viking World Museum, and Reykjanes tour are some of the most popular. New attractions, such as the Sky Lagoon Spa, and hiking to the Geldingardalir volcano are also available. To make your experience more enjoyable, some hotels offer luggage storage, allowing you to drop off your suitcases and explore without the extra weight.
Make a 2h hour stopover or more at the Blue Lagoon
One of the most common activities early arrivals choose to do is to make an early morning visit to the Blue Lagoon’s Spa. It is only 25min. away from the airport. For the most convenient way to get there, check out Blue Lagoon’s transfer with a 2-hour layover. When you get to the Blue Lagoon, our driver would wait for you outside the Blue Lagoon for two hours with your suitcases loaded in the car. Please note that Blue Lagoon’s admission tickets need to be purchased on Blue Lagoon’s website before you get there. Make sure that you book the tickets well in advance.
Visit Perlan
This landmark in Reykjavik offers a permanent exhibition showcasing the natural wonders of Iceland, including volcanoes, tectonic plates, glaciers, earthquakes, and geothermal activity. The highlight of the exhibition is the artificial ice cave and the Northern Lights show, which can be viewed all year round. The exhibition is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm and can be reached by public bus or taxi from the city center. You can get the admission Wonders of Iceland pass here. To get there from the city center, you can catch a public bus Line 18, or take a cab.
Ferry to Viðey island
Yup, Iceland actually consists of 36 islands and Viðey is one of them that you can visit without leaving Reykjavik. During the summertime, Elding, a sea tour company offers ferry services from three locations: Old Harbor area, Harpa Concert Hall, and Skarfbakki pier. The one at Skarfabakki has more frequent departure times.
On the island, you can visit the Imagine Peace Tower, Viðey church – which is one of the oldest surviving churches in Iceland as well as some ruins of an old settlement.
Go to a Swimming Pool

If you’re self-driving, you can check the Viking Museum which is located in Njarðvík city, only 10min. away from Keflavik Int. Airport. They open as early as 7 am and there is a coffee house where you can grab some Viking-style buffet breakfast. Museum itself offers a good insight into the early history of Iceland’s settlement.
