After your pick-up tour starts in Breiðdalsvík, however you will visit all these sights in a different order depending on where you start. Since the museum stop varies depending on the trip, it is not specified.
From there, we make our way down the coast in the direction of Stöðvarfjörður, halting at a steep cliff that separates the communities.
We then continue on our way to Fáskrúðsfjörður. We make stop at the Hafnarnes lighthouse en route. There used to be a fishing village near the lighthouse, but all that’s left of it is the wreckage of the homes and people that once called it home.
After passing through the village, we continue down the rocky coast. From there, we have an amazing view of Skrúður Island, which is rumored to be the home of a troll.
We proceed toward Reyðarfjörður Fjord and Egilsstaðir as we drive straight ahead. We pause en route in a little canyon to enjoy the scenery.
After that, we drive across the Breiðdalsheiði mountain road to finish the circular tour and return to Breiðdalsvík. By the side of the current road, we can plainly see a road construction that dates back a century.
We visit abandoned farms in Jórvík that are part of an important geological site, showcase spectacular midsummer flora, and provide insight into the lives of ordinary Icelanders in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
We next go to the waterfall at Flögufoss and continue on to the waterfall at Beljandi. We travel some tough roads to get to those waterfalls, and after visiting Beljandi Waterfall, we cross the river below it at a spot without bridges.
The next destination is the local church in Heydalir, where you can see an illustration of a typical Icelandic rural church and get a glimpse of certain aspects of Icelandic culture.
We make a stop at Meleyri, a black sand beach that is a well-liked outdoor destination for both locals and tourists, toward the end of our excursion.
